The family-friendly eight-seater Ford Expedition is getting added capability for the 2018 model. Drivers who want an SUV that can go anywhere can add the FX4 Off-Road Package to their order, and gain:
- Off-road-tuned Hitachi shocks
- All-terrain tires
- Electronic limited-slip differential with 3.73:1 gearing
- Seven skidplates
- Terrain Management System with eco, sport, tow/haul, grass/gravel/snow, mud/rut, and sand modes
- Easy-to-clean rubber floor liners
Though ground clearance remains the same 9 inches as the base model, and its long wheelbase makes it less than ideal for rock crawls, the 2018 Expedition FX4 Off-Road thrives where the pavement ends. Inaccessible remote hunting camps, deeply-rutted farm roads after a spring thaw, and unplowed winter mayhem are taken in stride. It's the ideal SUV for backcountry adventures, or rough rural commutes—and you'll love the extra confidence in rough weather when the kids are in the back seat, counting on you.
The FX4 Off-Road Package comes with the Expedition's 400-horsepower, 470-pound-feet-of-torque 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, and will be available starting this fall at Fox Grand Traverse Ford.
