What to Know About Common Symbols on Your Car Dash

Staying on top of your vehicle's health is an important responsibility for the driver. Our top four lights to look out for include:

• Check Engine Light: this is critically important and if you see an engine icon or "check engine" flashing, it means to get it addressed with us as soon as possible. This could be a fuel system issue or a plethora of other issues. We'll be able to investigate and check it out so it hopefully doesn't become a serious issue for you.
• Brake System Warning Light: you'll know it's a brake issue if you get an exclamation point in a circle. It means there is a brake issue that could be due to low brake fluid or worn brake pads, or an issue with your ABS system. Getting this checked out as soon as you can is smart because you don't want brake failure while driving as that is unsafe for you and others on the road.
• Oil Pressure Warning Light: a light that looks like an oil can mean you have low oil pressure, a leak, or a malfunction. Safely get off the road and you can do a self-inspection on the oil levels by popping the hood and looking at oil levels using the dipstick on your vehicle. Even so, get an appointment so we can make sure it's nothing serious, as oil pressure issues are serious issues that need to be addressed by a service pro.
• Battery Charge Warning Light: with a light that looks like a car battery, it can mean many things, all of which you should address. There could be a problem with the battery's charging and it won't be able to hold a charge, or is experiencing power loss. It also could be some loose parts that need fixing. You don't want to go far without addressing this as the battery could fail, leaving you needing roadside assistance.
