With more and more automotive brands beginning to realize the potential of the all-electric automobile, Ford is pushing the industry forward by taking its most popular pickup and transforming it into an all-electric light-duty pickup. While this truck may be eliminating traditional gasoline combustion from its structure, it manages not only to retain the same power, torque, towing, and payload you expect out of an F-150, it surpasses it in several different ways.

What is the Ford F-150 Lightning?

The Ford F-150 Lightning is set to be the first-ever all-electric light-duty pickup in the history of the Ford brand when it makes its debut for the 2022 model year. Unlike its traditional gasoline cousin, it comes standard with 4x4 capability right out of the box. While it may seem that such a powerful truck will need to be recharged frequently, that is not the case. The F-150 Lightning's battery range is one of its standout features, allowing it to run longer and go further than you ever thought possible. This battery range makes the F-150 Lightning an environmentally friendly alternative to any local businesses looking to be more eco-conscious.

There are two performance models in the F-150 lineup, both of which are capable of some incredible performance numbers. The standard range Ford F-150 Lightning pickup features a lithium-ion battery with the following specs:

Power output: 426 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque

EPA-estimated 230-mile range

Maximum payload capacity: 2,000 pounds

Maximum towing capacity: 5,000 pounds

If that's not enough for you, opting for the extended range model gets you a performance output of 563 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque while boosting the all-electric range to 300 miles. It features a payload capacity of 1,800 pounds and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.

We went beyond building an all-electric F-150. We created the smartest, most connected F-150 Ford has ever built, packed with all of the advantages that zero-emissions propulsion offers – from nearly instantaneous torque to Ford Intelligent Backup Power, connected services to intelligent range, it’s a strong, capable look at what’s to come.

We’ve created a wide array of advanced technologies that can help improve the performance of your truck and your business. Including over-the-air Software Updates, powerful charging solutions and FordPass™ Integration that not only allows remote access to your truck and communication with a Ford Charge Station Pro at home for seamless access to public charging.

The all-electric F-150 Lightning is a purpose-built, must-have truck for serious work and recreation. And because we take the words “Built Ford Tough” seriously, we torture-tested it and put it through the same paces that all F-150 trucks go through. So you can be confident the F-150 Lightning will live up to the standards you have come to expect from F-150.
