Know Your Charging Options

  • Level 1 chargers can be used with a standard household outlet and provide 2 to 5 miles or range per hour, which is good for plug-in hybrids but EVs need more power at home
  • Level 2 chargers are installed by a certified electrician, and can charge 10-20 miles of range per hour, which is good for those at home or work who can leave their vehicle for a longer stretch of the day or night
  • Level 3 fast chargers are the most efficient, and can provide 60-80 miles of range in 20 minutes for when you're on the go

Charging from Home

A standard outlet can be used for a plug-in hybrid, but with an EV it's recommended that you have an electrician professionally install a charging station or outlet with enough power so you can plug in. If you're in an apartment or condo, you can try and convince the owner to add a charging station or find charging stations nearby from public areas

Battery Care

Electric batteries last 100,000 to 200,000 miles when properly cared after, and with newer models we're only seeing that range increase. The ideal conditions are to keep the vehicle charge at 20 to 80 percent most days, and avoid extremely hot outdoor temperatures so you have minimal auto care needs.
