Here at Fox Grand Traverse Ford, we get a common question especially when it comes to electrified vehicles here in our lineup: what's the difference between hybrid vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles? We're here to provide you with more details and give you the chance check out all our options and give you the chance to learn more about each.
With a Ford hybrid like the ones found on certain models such as the Explorer and F-150, you are getting a gas engine that is paired with an electric motor that works together to provide you with added fuel economy and the motor recharges through regenerative braking without the need to plug in. A plug-in hybrid is one that also uses the gas-electric combination but with the electric motor able to provide you with an all-electric range on a limited supply. Most are able to go like 18 to 20 miles before needing to be recharged. You can do that by plugging it into a charger that can be set up using a standard outlet in your garage to replenish the battery. It also can be replenished by regenerative braking over time as well.
As for electric vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning, these use electric engines and have to be recharged when the battery drains. These don't have gas engines and are also a popular choice for drivers too.
