Last year, the Ford Fusion fell just short of receiving a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It earned a good rating in four out of five crashworthiness categories (small-overlap front, moderate-overlap front, side, roof strength, and head, restraints, and seats).
